Nicholas R. Andrea

Nicholas (“Nick”) Andrea is a seasoned insurance coverage attorney whose practice centers on advising and defending insurance carriers in complex coverage and bad‑faith matters. A litigator, analyst, and advocate, Nick supports insurers across a wide spectrum of specialized issues involving diverse policy types, exposures and industries.

Nick’s recent work has emphasized environmental, asbestos, and LTE claims under liability policies. Throughout his career, however, he has handled an extensive range of coverage matters involving Directors & Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Businessowners, Homeowners, and numerous other commercial and personal lines. He regularly counsels carriers on policy interpretation, coverage obligations, reservations of rights, claims handling, and bad‑faith exposure—helping clients navigate high‑stakes disputes with practical, business‑focused solutions. In addition to his experience in large firms, he has served insurers directly in an in-house capacity, managing defense firms and providing best practice training for claims professionals and their managers.

His background also includes experience as an insurance law professor, frequent lecturer on coverage issues, and publisher for several years of the popular insurance law blog, The Coverage Geek.

Beyond his coverage practice, Nick brings significant civil litigation experience across every stage of the process—from pleadings and strategy development through discovery, dispositive motions, trial, and appeal. His command of litigation enables him to manage complex disputes efficiently while positioning matters for effective resolution. Known for his strong legal research, writing, and appellate advocacy skills, Nick has authored appellate briefs and/or presented oral argument before the California Courts of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, and the Texas Courts of Appeals. This appellate perspective informs his trial‑level work, allowing him to identify and address legal issues with long‑term impact on case outcomes.
